Open Position: Head of Finance

General Description

The Head of Finance is a key position that reports directly to the CEO and works closely with the President in managing all RockStep activities related to the company’s finances for both the US Headquarters and UK subsidiary. The Head of Finance is a member of RockStep’s Executive Leadership Team.

This position works closely with the company’s department leaders and executives in developing and monitoring the company’s annual budgets and aligning them with projections. The incumbent develops and implements tax and accounting strategy and is responsible for managing RockStep’s finances according to GAAP and IFRS. This role ensures the company’s financials and expenditures are managed in accordance with the laws of the countries in which the company operates. In addition, the Head of Finance assists with contracts and overseas all accounting and billing activities.

Outline of Tasks and Areas of Responsibility

Strategy

  • Participate in Strategic planning

Accounting and Bookkeeping

  • Manage GAAP and IFRS accounting
  • Oversee bookkeeping and accounting systems, including controls
  • Lead monthly and annual closing of the books

Cash Management

  • Manage accounts payable
  • Manage invoicing/accounts receivable
  • Review and approve commission payments
  • Develop and monitor department budgets

Taxes

  • Work with accounting firm in preparing taxes
  • Manage tax credits
  • Consult with BOD on tax strategies
  • Support financial audits
  • Manage multi-state and country Sales and VAT tax
  • R&D Tax Credits

Payroll

  • Oversee payroll and benefits

Contracts and Insurance

  • Review and approve sales contracts
  • Work with insurance brokers to ensure company is properly covered

Financial Reports and Projections

  • Produce monthly financial statements
  • Develop and maintain financial models and forecasts
  • Produce financial metrics for BOD and Investors
  • Monitor financial performance against projections

Stock Portfolio

  • Manage corporate stock portfolio and platform (Carta) and granting ISO
  • 409A Valuations

Financing and M&A

  • Work with CEO and President in developing financing Strategy
  • Work with CEO and President through equity investment and/or M&A (due diligence etc).

Corporate

  • Annual Corporate Filings
  • State nexus and employee registrations
Qualifications and Competencies
  • CPA
  • Masters’ degree in accounting, tax and auditing, or investing and finance
  • MBA is a plus
  • Must be facile with Microsoft Office products, especially MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • General computer skills as required to work with browsers, video conferencing, and accounting software such as QuickBooks and/or NetSuite
Soft Skills
  • Outgoing with ability to engage and develop rapport with RockStep’s internal leaders
  • Ability work in high stress situations with calm while providing unbiased and data driven advice to company leadership
  • Ability to communicate and translate complex financial information to staff, shareholders, BOD members, and investors who may not have significant understanding of how to interpret financial statements and/or have financial acumen
Experience

At least 5 years working in Corporate finances with the following experiences:

  • Prior exposure to startups
  • International business and financials
  • Managing stock portfolios
  • Equity financing
  • Mergers and Acquisitions
  • Carta or other equity and BOD management platforms
  • GAAP and IFRS accounting
  • Financial Audits
  • Tax strategies
